HP ProLiant G6 Server goes greener

HP doubled the number of HP ProLiant G6 server platforms this month, delivering more x86 server platforms with top energy efficiency than any other company in the industry. HP introduced seven energy-efficient platforms based on the Six-Core AMD OpteronTM processors, and the HP ProLiant DL1000 Multi-Node series of servers. This new HP offering adds to a growing portfolio of HP Eco Solutions that helps businesses cost-effectively live and work in a low-carbon economy.

Survey Winner Is. . .

Congratulations to Chris Miles from Rowland Reading for being the June 2009 winner of a $50 gift card good at any of the Food Fight restaurants! Chris completed the satisfaction survey after her help desk issue was closed. As a result, Chris was automatically entered to win a gift card from Applied Tech and randomly chosen as the winner. Who is going to be this month's winner?? It could be you. . . (just be sure to complete the emailed survey once your help desk case is closed. It's that easy!)

Desktop or Workstation - Which do you need?
reprinted with permission from the HP Small Business Center

Workstations are more accessible and more flexible than ever, but do you need that kind of power? How exactly do workstations differ from traditional desktops? Who uses workstations, and what benefits do they offer?

Who uses workstations?
Workstations are designed to meet the requirements of users who place heavy demands on their computers, including:

  • Power office users who perform complicated and data-intensive office functions—graphic, video and web design, complex linked calculations, database and spreadsheet manipulations and advanced collaboration functions.

  • Technical personnel who work in design and simulation functions that can include MCAD (Mechanical Computer Aided Design), CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), and ECAD (Electronics Computer Aided Design) in industries as diverse as aeronautics, automotive design, product prototyping and more.

  • Animators, graphic artists, video editors and renderers who engage in DCC (Digital Content Creation).

  • Traders or other employees in financial sectors that require quad-monitor support and the computing power to manage complex real time transactions seamlessly.

What makes a workstation a workstation?
