Top Six Ways to Use Managed Services to Go Green

IT environments using managed services can make a significant reduction in travel, power management, and downtime. The following are six green IT improvements facilitated by Applied Tech’s TechCareTM  Managed Services program.

1. Travel Reductions
Being able to remotely monitor a customer’s IT network saves approximately 85% of the need to drive on-site, reduces the customer’s downtime, and reduces 63 pounds of CO2 emissions being released into the atmosphere for every 71 miles saved.

2. Intelligent Power Management
Most desktop PCs have automatic hibernation and sleep-mode capabilities, but nearly 90 percent have those functions disabled. Remotely configuring workstations to power down can reduce electricity consumption by 60 percent, or about $127 in electricity costs per year.

3. Monitor Replacement
Replacing CRT monitors with LCD’s. LCD monitors provides up to 70% power savings and provides up to twice the lifespan of CRT monitors. LCD monitors also run cooler, which helps save on air conditioning costs.

Of course you have customers - every business does. Which is why every business needs Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions.

At its core, CRM involves three basic steps: finding and developing customer relationships, keeping customers happy, and growing these relationships to enhance your business profitability.

It's one thing to identify a loyal customer; it's another to cultivate that loyalty. To do this, you have to know your customers. Knowledge is power, and CRM delivers.

From centralizing customer information and correspondence across your organization to identifying new avenues of business growth to capturing proven workflows, CRM has features and components that can help your business become more responsive to your customer's needs.

CRM products help organizations of all sizes, within all industries, to build more fruitful, productive relationships with current customers, and forge relationships with new ones.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM encompasses all the best practices of CRM, with all the flexibility, familiarity, and functionality you'd expect from Microsoft. It's a CRM solution that works the way you do, the way your business does, and the way technology should.

Taking the Risk Out of Managing Your Network

Ever heard a small-business owner say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? This simple old saying depicts the mentality of thousands of SMBs when it comes to preventing security breaches and assessing vulnerabilities within their networks.

If the servers are running, e-mails are accessible and customers aren't complaining about identity theft -- companies logically assume that their security measures, however informal, are working. This false sense of security is exactly what hackers and identity thieves prey on.

The truth of the matter is that networks of all sizes are vulnerable to attacks and security threats 24/7/365. Spyware, worms and viruses don't discriminate. If there is a way into your network, they will find it and you may, or may not, know about it. Although the short-term impact to your business is obvious, the long-term impact is what really keeps us up at night.

Security breaches and other malicious attacks not only take down the network and compromise your company's data and your customers' privacy, they can ruin your company's reputation. With competition around every corner, and new laws mandating the disclosure of data theft to affected consumers, news like this travels fast. So what should you do?

Congratulations to Janet Kjelland from Architectural Building Arts for being the May 2009 winner of a $50 gift card good at any of the Food Fight restaurants! Janet completed the satisfaction survey after her help desk issue was closed. As a result, Janet was automatically entered to win a gift card from Applied Tech and randomly chosen as the winner. Who is going to be this month’s winner?? It could be you. . . (just be sure to complete the emailed survey once your help desk case is closed. It’s that easy!)

Microsoft Office OneNote 2007

Many of us carry a notebook or notepad around to take notes for business, school, or personal projects. But can you easily find — and decipher — the info you need? Is it convenient to share your notes with others? Take control with Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, the easy-to-use note-taking and information-management program where you can capture ideas and information in electronic form. Insert files or Web content in full-color, searchable format or as icons that you can click to access.

Watch this demo to see how simple it is to gather, format, organize, and share information. And then say goodbye to your notepad!  How to do it (text version):

Get started with OneNote
Take and format notes
Organize your notes
Distribute notes to other people
