 Green IT Corner

Last month, Applied Tech requested and received an Energy Audit from our energy partners at MG&E. This informative audit educated us about the average use of energy and natural gas for an office of our size. We were pleased to learn that, in part to our Green IT efforts, Applied Tech is using a third less of electrical energy and less than half of natural gas of an office space similar to ours. Find out what you can be doing for your office and request an energy audit for your business by visiting MG&E’s Business website.

Thinking About Hiring Your Own Internal IT Staff –
Think Again!

Outsourcing your IT brings additional business value
by Stuart R. Crawford, V.P., IT Matters, Inc.

Businesses today wrestle and grapple with the thought of hiring their own technology support staff to support their daily need for IT support without fully understanding the risks and the costs associated with having their own team of technology professionals.

Business owners, C level execs and Managers are attracted to the idea of having a team or a consultant readily available within shouting distance down the hall, basically having an IT resource committed to them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, many of today’s business owners across the country are not aware of the total risks their business is exposed to by electing to bring their technology support in-house.

Working effectively isn't easy in a vacuum. Getting people together to share information, share ideas, and share work can really make a difference when you need to get things done. But what if all the people you need are not close at hand?

With your computer, an Internet Connection, and Microsoft SharedView, the people you need can be as close as your keyboard. And unlike better-known meeting services (such as WebEx and GoToMeeting which cost upwards of $49 per month or more), SharedView doesn't cost a dime. That's why it's Applied Tech's latest Cool Tool.
