Did You Know...

You can preview an attachment in Outlook before you open it (Office 2007 only). When you receive an attachment in a message and want to quickly see what the attachment contains without opening it, you can preview the attachment in the Reading Pane.

Just select the message that has the attachment, and in the Reading Pane, click the attachment once (not twice, which will open it). The content of the attachment, whether it's a document, a presentation, an image, or whatever, will appear in the Reading Pane.

New hire Doug Orlofske joined Applied Tech on April 2, 2008 as a Senior Systems Specialist. Prior to Applied Tech, Doug was a Senior Network Administrator at Marshall Erdman & Associates.   Congratulations to Ahren Groshek of Applied Tech for passing his Microsoft Small Business Server Exam. Ahren is now a Small Business Specialist along with technicians Kris Cears, Tim Barrett and Scott Drost

It's Not Easy Being Green!

Traditionally, standard business practice for Information Technology has dictated that the primary focus of IT decisions and initiatives is based on the economic impact and viability. In other words, how much will it cost, and how much will it save me over time, and when will I recoup my investment. This mindset has started to change drastically in the last year or so, as companies adopt a Green IT mentality, and start to consider not only the economic impact of their decisions, but the environmental and social as well. The problem is, for IT, it’s not easy being green.

Employee Profile - Julie Vike

Julie Vike, Applied Tech’s Marketing and Business Development Manager, handles all of the marketing efforts including event planning (seminars, special events, expo’s, promotions) and focuses on relationship development with new business.

Julie also is an Associate Director for the Madison Area Builders Association (MABA), a responsibility she greets with enthusiasm and dedication.

No stranger to volunteer work, Julie also donates pro bono marketing and PR ideas to the Restoring Hope Transplant house, is a school volunteer, organizer of the annual adopt-a-family for the holidays, serves on the Programs Committee for MABA, and often the first to raise her hand to help out where needed.

Julie lives in McFarland with her son, Corey, and the family cat, Daisy. Julie is often found at the karate studio that her son attends or in the kitchen baking treats for her co-workers or son’s classroom.

When asked for a piece of information about her that might surprise people, Julie said that she and her son collect PEZ dispensers. With a collection of more than 200 dispensers, her favorites are the vintage Looney Tunes she’s found over the years.

After seven months of invite-only beta, Xobni is now publicly available for anyone to download for free. Xobni is a plug-in to Outlook that helps you organize your flooded inbox.

By creating profiles for each person that emails you, the profile contains relationship statistics, contact information, social connections, threaded conversations, and shared attachments for quick retrieval.
