The Value of
Data: What is your data worth to your organization?
by Pete Heles, Founder/CEO, Frameworks IT
What is your data worth?
This question is one that will have a unique answer to each
and every entity in existence. There is no easy answer. This
is obvious in the fact that this very question has been
asked many times without a quantitative foundation for the
answer. It is the objective of this document to assist you
in better determining the value of your firm’s data, how to
increase its value and ensure the on going retention of
value.
In researching
this question, there are several current themes for
determining the value of an organization’s data. The most
basic formula is the data of an organization is equal to one
times annual revenue. This theory is supported by the fact
that if a company’s data is lost or handed over to a
competitor, the firm is worthless without it.

Attention: We
have just been notified of Back Billing on 911 calls from
AT&T for Southwest Region Commercial Customers:
Description/Details:
There is a new State law in the five Southwest Region states
(MO, OK, AR, KS & TX) requiring that they bill and collect 911
charges/fees/taxes from end users and remit the amounts they
collect to 911 agencies. AT&T has discovered that 911
charges/fees/taxes have not been billed on some customers’
accounts in these states. A 911 “back-billing” will be
implemented in two phases.
AT&T will
back-bill the previously unbilled 911 charges/fees/taxes in
two phases (except in Oklahoma):
|
• |
In the
first phase, back-billing will be for one of two
periods, depending on whether the customer’s account
began billing January 1, 2009 – either (i) from July
1, 2008, through June 30, 2009, or (ii) from July 1,
2008, through December 31, 2008; and• |
|
• |
In the
second phase, back-billing will be for the period
beginning July 1, 2009, until the 911 billing is
corrected, which is currently targeted for February
19, 2010. |
|
• |
In
Oklahoma, back-billing will be confined to the
6-month period from July 1, 2008, through December
31, 2008. |
|
• |
Affected services are: PRI (SmartTrunk) B channels,
as well as other business local access line
services, provided under certain promotions and/or
custom pricing arrangements. |
