In 1985, two new computer companies were
formed with very different focuses.
Arlin Sorensen established Sorensen’s
Computer Connection, Inc in Harlan, IA
to serve area farmers and their computer
needs. Jane Cage and her husband, Bill,
(deceased in 1995) opened Connecting
Point Computer Center in Joplin,
Missouri as a retail computer center
serving individuals and companies. Both
companies grew over time, changing their
focus to meet the needs of small
businesses and education. In January
2003, after spending time together at
conferences and on advisory boards,
Sorensen and Cage, along with new
Connecting Point partner, Larry Hedin,
merged their operations to form
Heartland Technology Solutions.
Just eight months later, HTS purchased
Beacon Micro Center in Ames, Iowa. In
June of 2006, HTS merged with Business
Computer Centers of Kansas and gained
locations in Muskogee, Oklahoma and one
serving Central Kansas based out of
Newton. In 2008, HTS established a new
location in Omaha, NE.
Today, HTS has a diverse set of
specializations including a large
Precision Agriculture practice, K-12
Education, IP Telephony and Document
Management. Over 30 engineers serve
clients across five states. HTS also
services other computer resellers
through its electronic newsletter
division with over 200 clients across
the country.
HTS is highly regarded in the vendor
community and has strong partnerships
with Microsoft, HP and Sonicwall. Its
executive team serves on many advisory
councils to represent computer resellers
across the country.
