Customer Pain

In January 2008, Greg Freeman, Owner of Freeman Auto Salvage Center (FASC), approached HTS after being referred by an existing HTS client. Greg was becoming dissatisfied with his existing IT support company and was actively pursuing an alternative. He was particularly interested in an organization that could provide immediate support on an on-going basis.

Assessment

Greg met with HTS staff to identify what he believed were his immediate needs and concerns and shared some of his vision for the future of his company. After this initial meeting, HTS determined that the next step would be an on-site visit to get a better understanding of the network environment and to help identify key recommendations. During these meetings, HTS learned that FASC had a Microsoft Small Business Server without a reliable backup solution. During the on-site visit, HTS had discussed a Managed Server program as well as our Backup & Data Recovery (BDR) offering.

Vision and Solution

After the on-site visit, HTS was able to create a multi-level offering that could dramatically improve the network environment and provide 24x7 network and data protection. This offering included additional hardware for network security, on-site support, server management, and a reliable backup solution with off-site data storage.

Implementation

We contracted for weekly on-site support, implemented 24x7 server monitoring and maintenance, implemented 24x7 firewall monitoring and reporting, and implemented our BDR solution which consists of a virtual server placed on the network with off-site data storage.

Customer Impact

Freeman Auto has benefited greatly from the relationship established with HTS. HTS was able to secure their network environment and has made several key improvements in the past several months. Server and firewall monitoring have proved to be valuable services. HTS’s involvement has allowed Greg to spend time running and growing his business while knowing that his network is in capable hands.

By far, the greatest impact from the HTS relationship resulted from a server “crash” during the night of June 9. A problem had occurred overnight that disabled the server. HTS staff was able to switch the users to the “virtual server” BDR and the staff was back online in a short time. Without the BDR, the server outage would have required a complete re-build and would have taken a couple of days to complete. Freeman Auto utilized the BDR server for two days and scheduled the transition back to their server on the evening of June 11. HTS restored their server from the BDR image and switched the users back to their server. This server outage could have been catastrophic for Freeman Auto, but they only had very limited downtime and didn’t lose any data. The BDR solution had been in place for about 16 months before its true value was realized. After this incident, Greg was impressed by the smooth transition and how valuable the BDR is to keeping his network online and his staff productive.
